Windows Media Center Extenders

LINKSYS : WMCE54AG : Linksys Dual-Band Wireless A/G Media Center ExtenderBuy.com is now taking pre-orders for the Linksys WMCE54AG “Wireless A/G Media Center Extender”…aka Bobsled. I am so incredibly proud of this device. Way back in 2000 I sat down with Don Gray and Bob Atkinson to brainstorm the concept of using RDP to remote UI and AV from a media server. This concept has finally been released as a full product. Of course you can’t actually use one of these until Windows Media Center 2005 ships but you’ll be able to get that soon too.

Hats off o the entire Bobsled team: David, Jay, Harry, Guillaume, Jeff, Nick, Gurpratap, Keith and anyone I’ve forgotten. You did it!

Do you know what the max resolution is? Is it standard definition TV or can it drive higher resolutions like HDTV.

Would be great if it also included a DVI connector to connect to high-res LCD TVs etc.

    Cheers

Holy cow! Why would I spend $250+ on that Linksys thing when I could buy an XBox with whatever media extender attachment it’s bound to get? I’m so disappointed in the price…

I thought the press releases earlier this year when the media center extender devices were first announced mentioned prices on the order of $150.

Although price wise the WiFi version of Slim Device’s Squeezebox which only does audio costs $279.

Xboxes make noise and are not always on, Extenders ave silent and can always be on. Not everyone his an Xbox or wants one. And the cost diff. is not that great.

    Now *this* looks like a well-priced unit. : )
